Annual Boise Event Art in the Park Goes Virtual for its 66th Year

Last updated September 08, 2020 by Totally Boise

Art in the Park is a Boise favorite every year. Traditionally held at Julia Davis Park, Art in the Park is hosted by Boise Art Museum and in an effort to support talented artists. Known as a place to gather and explore with family and friends, the current pandemic has definitely shifted the way Art in the Park is going to be held this year.

When is Art in the Park?

The virtual market will begin on September 10th at 9 a.m. and run through September 18th at 5 p.m. through Facebook Marketplace. One awesome feature about Art in the Park going virtual is that the link will work 24 hours a day. Meaning you can shop on your own time, in the comfort of your home.

Celebrating its 66th year of selling local, regional, and national vendors, Art in the Park is changing up the way it operates.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, Art in the Park, along with input from local vendors decided a virtual marketplace was the right decision for the 2020 event.

“After giving every possible scenario significant thought, with your health and safety as our priority, we have determined that we cannot convene tens of thousands of people for our event,” said executive director Melanie Fales.

Deciding to hold Art in the Park online was not an easy decision considering it is Boise Art Museum’s main source of funding throughout the year. While thousands of people visit art in the park during the weekend event, an in-person event just wasn’t in the cards this year.

However, as many businesses are switching gears to virtual shows, it allows people who were not able to attend the event an opportunity to shop for local vendors on their own time.

How Will the Virtual Marketplace Work?

Held on Facebook Marketplace, the virtual Art in the Park will have 100 online artists. Art in the Park will be organized on Facebook Marketplace by categories. Categories will include jewelry, ceramics, home crafts, sculptures, and more. Within the category pages, there will be a list of artists with their information and links within that to shop for goods.

The best part? 75% of purchases made online will go directly to the artist you are supporting.

COVID-19 has definitely shifted the way we typically operate, but it doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy all of Boise’s amazing events throughout the year. Support local artists this upcoming Art in the Park.
