Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site Bring More Than 40 At-Risk Dogs to The Idaho Humane Society

Last updated March 21, 2022 by Mariah Hebbeln

Thursday morning, the Good Flights program of Greater Good Charities, with help from The Animal Rescue Site, rescued over 40 at-risk dogs from Louisiana shelters, bringing them to the Idaho Humane Society. It was a truly lucky day for these dogs, arriving at the Jackson Jet Center the afternoon of St. Patrick’s Day. Once the dogs have been evaluated and loaded into the IHS’s system, they will be ready for adoption.

Working in collaboration with seven New Orleans shelters, the Flight to Freedom program gave the 40+ dogs a second chance at a new life, saving them from euthanasia.

These dogs came from the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter, Cara’s House, St. Martin’s Parish Animal Shelter, Iberville Parish Animal Shelter and Control, Humane Society of South Mississippi, Save a Pet Rescue, Adoption & Transport, and Lafayette Animal Shelter. Through the Greater Goods Charities’ Good Flights Program, the dogs underwent health evaluations and certifications and were thoroughly vetted before being turned over to the Idaho Humane Society.

At the IHS facility, located at 1300 S Bird St. in Boise, before being put up for adoption, the dogs will be re-evaluated and receive any follow-up medical care they may need. The IHS’s diligence saves hundreds of animals from life-threatening situations and introduces Idahoans to their newest family members.

Who Are Greater Good Charities and The Rescue Site?

Thanks to programs like this, animals are being saved from euthanasia due to overcrowding at animal shelters all over the country.

At the top, Greater Good Charities is an organization that “works to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good.” Their primary focus is the results of the work and being transparent, and to date, has given $400 million to over 5,000 projects.

The Rescue Site, a branch of the Greater Good Charities, works to aid animals throughout the country with food donations, the “Flight to Freedom” program, and several other life-saving services.

The “Flight to Freedom” program has saved thousands of pets. To further help lessen the issue of animal shelter overcrowding, the flight not only takes animals to shelters with space but then gives the sending shelter more room for less at-risk animals, allowing them to be adopted quicker.
