Lost Grove Brewing Becomes Idaho’s First B Corp Certified Brewery

Last updated February 24, 2022 by Mariah Hebbeln

Steps away from the Boise Greenbelt and Boise State University, Idaho’s first B Corp certified brewery, Lost Grove Brewing is mixing up delicious beers and a more equitable future for Boise. Achieving this certification is no short feat, but is a commitment that Lost Grove Brewing has taken on proudly to help set an example for others in a way that is positively impacting our community.

This isn’t the only news the local brewery shared with us, and boy, are we excited to share what’s up and coming with Lost Grove Brewing!

Becoming a B Corp in Idaho

Lost Grove Brewing has always been a company that prioritizes people over profits. It was a natural progression to aim for a B Corp Certification, and it follows in the footsteps of their many core values that were established with the brewery's creation in 2017.

How To Become B Corp Certified

The B Corp certification is a fast-growing movement within the world of business that is allowing customers to trust that companies are holding themselves to a particular set of standards. Simply put, a B Corp certified company makes a commitment to contribute to the communities social and environmental impact, creating a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

To become a Certified B Corporation, a company must:

  • Provide a high social and environmental performance
  • Pledge to a legal commitment within the corporate governance
  • Demonstrate transparency into the corporate performance

Sustainability & Lost Grove Brewing

Along with being Idaho’s first B Corp certified brewery, it is also the 19th in the country. Before attaining their certification, Lost Grove prioritized ethical employment, fundraising for local nonprofits and monitoring their emissions with a goal of becoming carbon neutral.

“Since we opened our doors four years ago, Lost Grove has focused on sustainability, social responsibility, community, and, of course, great beer,” said Lost Grove owner Jake Black.

Adding, “It has been a dream of ours to become a B Corp and earning this status helps us share our passion and commitment for doing good in our community. We are so proud to officially become a Certified B Corporation.”

How Lost Grove Brewing Gives Back To The Community

As part of their commitment and ability to gain B Corp certification, Lost Grove Brewing is required to give back to its community in a way that is contributing to equality and equity. They happily obliged and had many programs in place to do this successfully.

Powerful Pints

Lost Grove Brewing is dedicated to raising money for local Idaho non-profits through their Powerful Pints program. Every month, a tap room hosts a day where 50% of the proceeds generated that night are then donated to the organization they are hosting. On top of that, they donate $2 per beer that has been designated as that organization's tap handle for the month. If you can’t make it into the brewery that month, donations can also be made through the Cauze app.

Artist In Residence Program

When Lost Grove Brewing started bottling their tasty new barrel-aged brews, they knew giving their bottles a fresh, “cool-as-hell” look was at the top of their priority list. Now, each year, one local Idaho artist will be designing the label for their special barrel-aged beer series.

The 2022 artist of the year has been announced as Miguel Almeida!
